Why we chose "Asmara Grande"
Asmara, the capital of Eritrea, is Africa’s secret modernist city. The city is adorned with more than four hundred “Art Deco” buildings, revealing the ingenuity of the Italian architects during the colonial era, 1885-1941. UNESCO has recognized this modernist city as a world heritage, in 2017. The name Asmara is derived from the dignified deeds of four women. According to an un-recorded history there were four brothers in Asmara, then a small village, during its early establishment. These four brothers were not on good terms to each other and were in a seemingly endless animosity. Their wives did not support the discordant behaviors of their husbands. It is said that they were wise and used to meet secretly and vowed to bring their husbands into harmony. As the saying goes - a wife is a light to her house. Finally these four women succeeded in bringing about harmony and resolution among their husbands . Thus the name “Asmera” was given after their noble deeds. ‘Asmera” literally means “to come into agreements : to bring about resolution".
Apparently this legend portrays the achievement of winning a harmony when people are so determined. The pledge of Asmara Grande is to resolve all your travel needs and ensure that you will leave the country with a loving memory. For this we will stand on our principles.
“To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries”. ~Aldous Huxley
“Travel and change of place impart new vigor to the mind. ~Seneca
“The traveler was active; he went strenuously in search of people, of adventure, of experience. The tourist is passive; he expects interesting things to happen to him. He goes "sight-seeing." ~Daniel J. Boorstin
